Tymmarah (Tymm) Zehr

Tymmarah Zehr has a Master’s degree in International and Intercultural Communication. Her thesis “Collectively Building a Welcoming Grande Prairie” involved newcomers to Canada, local artists and representatives from agencies that help newcomers settle and integrate into the City of Grande Prairie.

She has a keen interest in the Compassionate Cities movement and facilitates reading groups for Karen Armstrong’s book “Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life”, hosts Mindfulness Retreats around the Province of Alberta and is a Safe Harbour: Respect for All workshop facilitator which helps create safe, culturally inclusive communities that support diversity and reject discrimination. She is a Cultural Diversity and Inclusion Consultant providing training workshops and presentations on intercultural communication.

In her role as the Program Manager for the Welcoming and Inclusive Communities and Come Together Alberta initiatives at the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) she helped municipalities develop action plans to address racism and discrimination and proposed ways to help newcomers integrate into their new communities. In February, 2014 she coordinated a provincial conference and tradeshow for 200 delegates and 20 presenters to address issues related to Aboriginal relations, bullying and the LGBTQ community, best practices for newcomer integration and ability-related issues.

Her interest in welcoming communities comes from a desire to bring people together towards global peace by increasing cultural sensitivity and reducing discrimination.

Tymmarah writes a blog on Peace Every Day, writes poetry, does collage art work, and is working on a script for a play.
